Kitchen cleanser: Use baking soda on non-scratch surfaces and vinegar and water mixture on other surfaces. Never use vinegar on marble/granite surfaces.

Window Cleaner: Use all-purpose cleaner mixture

Tub and tile cleaner: mix baking powder, vinegar and eco soap, and a few tablespoons of vinegar into mixture and apply, scrub and wipe tiles. For the bathtub, never use vinegar on a acrylic and fiberglass bathtubs as it can dissolve the non skid surface of the tub. In this case make a paste of cream of tartar and 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution and spread cream over tub, scrub and rinse clean

Mildew remover: vinegar and salt paste, spread on, let sit, scrub and rinse.

Eco friendly

It isn’t a surprise that more and more people are opting to use environmentally friendly cleaning product or alternative recipes in keeping a clean home. This is because the commercial cleaners that we used to swear by actually end up covering our counter tops and bathrooms with something just as bad as mold and mildew: toxic chemicals.

Thankfully, environmentally friendly house cleaning products aren’t just easy to come by, they are easy to make as well. If you’re not sure where to look for environmentally friendly house cleaning products then start by opening your kitchen cabinets.

General household cleaner

The first thing that you’ll need is an all-around household cleanser. White distilled vinegar is a great general cleaner because it’s naturally acidic and can remove the dirt and grime from most surfaces (never on marble/granite).

  • Never use vinegar on marble or granite surfaces

Perhaps the only thing that can rival it in terms of effectiveness would be baking soda which can clean, deodorize, polish, remove all sorts of stains and even soften fabric. Salt is an excellent abrasive for cleaning pots and pans. Mix lemon juice and vinegar and water for an effective de-clogger.

Soap and water are the standard for a reason. Pure soap can be used on everything from dishes to carpets to cars.

In case you need another option for disinfectant aside from vinegar then hydrogen peroxide is the most common choice. Put in a spray bottle and label contents.

These are only a few examples of environmentally friendly household cleaning products that you can make on your own.

There are certain things that you shouldn’t mix together

  • Commercial cleaner and household cleaner is one thing but chlorine bleach, oven cleaners, dishwasher detergent or toilet-bowl cleaners should never, ever be mixed with ammonia, lye, rust remover, or vinegar. Such a combination will produce a poisonous gas that may cost you your life.

Be aware that essential oils can be toxic for cats.

Always test products on a inconspicuous area
